Application Support Eng III

Responsibilities

Responsibilities / Duties:

As a Senior Support Engineer you will be supporting the full ETL project lifecycle pre and post production. The Senior ETL Support Engineer will also become the subject matter expert on various projects in which he or she is the support lead. The individual will be performing ETL maintenance and administrative tasks in both production and non-production environments, SCM planning and integration, and will provide input on ETL design and testing strategies to ensure that it meets strict production and restartability standards. The individual will be working closely with ETL developers, project managers, and database administrators.

Provide 24 x 7 support with rotating on-call duties after hours within predetermined and agreed upon Service Level Agreements (SLA’s)

Adhere to problem management practices that focus on root cause analysis and prevention of future problems.

Work with other Application Support teams to resolve issues that may impact optimal performance of an application

Provide support for after-hours activities such as upgrades and implementations that may occur on evenings, weekends, or holidays.

Able to monitor, measure, and optimize application performance

Assist in administering multiple ETL tools including Ascential DataStage and iWAY ETL Manager

Perform code migrations according to SCM policies

Review design and architecture documents and provide ETL development teams with input on sound architecture and design principles (such as restartability, purging, etc)

Recognizing and performing internal enhancements and optimizations (ie. Automation, scripting, etc)

Ability to perform other Ad-Hoc requests by management

Proactively maintain and address capacity management issues

Coordinate and develop process automation/job scheduling using the Autosys scheduler

Perform defect analysis

Identify risk areas and implement preventative measures

Technical Knowledge:

Experience with data warehouse and ETL design, development, and support methodologies

Experience with Ascential DataStage (version 8 preferred)

Experience with iWAY ETL Manager 7.14+ or other ETL applications

Mainframe experience preferred (JCL, FOCUS, etc)

Clear understanding of RDBMS and SQL fundamentals

Experience with Oracle, SQL Server, and DB2

Experience with Shell scripting (bash/kornshell)

Understanding of Data Mapping and Modeling preferred

Ability to perform end-to-end troubleshooting of ETL jobs

Unix/Linux end user skills

Experience with Visio

Ability to write clear documentation of operating procedures

Extremely detail-oriented and able to follow clear methodologies for troubleshooting and support.

Meet with and report status to management team on a regular basis

Recognizes the need to escalate problems to a higher level

Takes personal ownership for problems-follows through to ensure that solutions meet needs.

Effectively documents solutions

Ensures knowledge transfer to work group/project peers

Demonstrates critical thinking

Identifies and analyses improvement opportunities

Troubleshoots and effectively resolves difficult or unusual problems.

Effective in solving problems in a team environment

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline

Minimum 3 years experience with ETL or Data Warehousing.

Exceptional problem solving skills.

Strong written and oral communication skills.

Banking or financial reporting experience helpful.

Ability to multi-task, set priorities and maintain delivery timelines

Hours and Work Schedule

Hours per Week: 40

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00AM-5:00PM
